Williamstown Skatepark Committee Outlines Fundraising Plan Ahead of December CPC Request

Following its appropriation at Town Meeting, the Williamstown Skatepark Committee has released details on the next phase of work: a focused fundraising effort to secure the remaining balance needed to build the park in full.

In many small towns, it can be difficult to track what happens after a project wins approval at Town Meeting unless you are attending all of the various meetings that happen or know someone. Months may pass before typical residents hear how funding decisions translate into action, leaving questions about timelines, next steps, or follow-through. The Williamstown Skatepark project, which received local funding support earlier this year, offers a current example of how that process unfolds.

Project Background

The new skatepark is planned for the Stetson Road recreation area, replacing the current asphalt pad with a poured-in-place concrete facility designed for skateboards, scooters, and bicycles. Town Meeting voters approved partial funding earlier this year, and design and permitting steps have already been completed.

Fundraising Campaign Underway

The committee has launched a short-term campaign to reach 100 donors and $100,000 in contributions before submitting its Community Preservation Committee (CPC) funding application in December.

According to the committee newsletter and website, meeting that goal will demonstrate broad participation and may strengthen the CPC proposal, which could provide the remaining public funding required to begin construction in 2026.

Business Sponsorships and Grants

Alongside individual contributions, the group is pursuing local business sponsorships and exploring additional grant opportunities to close the estimated $750,000 project budget. Several business leads are currently in discussion, though no sponsorships have yet been publicly confirmed.

Next Steps

The CPC application in December will determine whether the town’s contribution can be supplemented to complete full funding. If approved, construction could begin as early as next year.
